Funding Cuts

It's no secret that the Ontario government has imposed funding cuts and new levels of bureaucratic red tape in many programs since the mid 90's. We have seen massive cutbacks in healthcare. People with disabilities who require social assistance and incontinence supplies are expected to navigate increasingly complicated "red-tape" in order to meet their most basic human needs. People with sb/h, whose condition will not improve, are being forced to justify the same needs over and over again.

People with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus have been affected by increased red tape for the incontinence grant as a result of provincial downloading to the municipalities of Ontario. Those who cannot work or are unable to secure employment are forced to live on a disability pension that fails to keep pace with increases in the cost of living. SB&H and it's membership need to maintain pressure on candidates in any provincial elections to restore funding and reduce the red tape that gets in the way of Ontarians receiving full and equal access to public services.
