Assistive Voting Technology

New for this election, electors can vote using assistive voting technology (AVT).

This technology allows the voter to be certain that the ballot was marked and cast as intended.

The AVT offers voters three assistive options to use when casting a ballot:

  • the audio tactile interface
  • paddles
  • sip and puff device.

The AVT provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to vote independently and secretly.

Audio instructions accompany each step of the process from selection to verification. Once the voter has completed the process, a paper ballot is then printed into a secrecy folder, fed into the AVT tabulator and directly dropped into a ballot box. This ensures complete privacy from start to finish!

Assistive voting technology is available at your local returning office or satellite office from September 21 to October 5.
