my daughter saffi is 3 1/2 years old. her sb is L4/L5 ish. we are followed by the sb clinic at mcmaster.
we have a clinic appointment in march at which i really want to push the subject of starting to work towards social continence.
does anyone have experience with the URO team at MAC?
at what age did you start with your kids?
am i weird for wanting to get a handle on this issue as early as possible?
Sorry I don't have any experience with McMaster. I live in Ottawa.
My daughter is totally incontinent. She did not achieve self-cathertization until she was about 11 years old. It took a while to convince her to work on it. As far as bowel "control", we waited until she was 6 before she had her cecostomy. Anything younger may be difficult because a child needs to be able to sit on the toilet for up to an hour.
We are new in Canada and we need to find urinary catheter. Can somebody help us with this informations. From were we can buy this? Does the child hafe this for free?
Who made mitrofanoff surgery?
Thank you very much.
Angela
I started with my son around the age of 5. I wanted him to be socially continent. I felt that it was important to do so at an early age. It has been a struggle as we are only a year into the management and he still is often incontinent. Please post any advice that you have.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I know that my brother had a heck of a time with his son. While he is somewhat continent now, it took forever to get him out of diapers and onto the toilet reliably. Of course we knew it wasn't his fault and never made him feel bad about it. But it was a struggle. He is doing faily well now and does wear incontinence pants while he is out in public.

You have a right to be concerned it is your child. As far as I can see you just have to see your doctor. I hope that good results would come from your doctor visit.
I don't live in the country you live in, so I can't really tell, but I wish you luck with you daughter and hope everything will be fine for her. Wish her good health.
