Default many shunt revisions due to siphoning

please help my son is 10 years old and has had 23 shunt revisions in the last year, mostly because his shunt is siphoning and he continues to get headaches and dizziness.* Has anyone reading experienced a siphoning shunt.* He has been through 5 different types of antii-siphon valves and shunt valves? laura

Default many shunt revisions due to siphoning

Dear Laura,

Well, here is an update. I had five other revisions since I last posted the message. I had an ICP monitor put in before the last one: it showed negative pressures in vertical and in horizontal position. So, I now have a shunt in a "Y shape" that consists of two catheters, one for the cyst that I have in my brain and another for the ventricles, a medium flow valve and an anti-syphon device. The ICP monitor was kept for a while after the revision. The pressures were no longer negative, however low.

I live in Quebec, Canada and the team of neurosurgeons that is following me is incredible! Your son should have the ICP monitor put in so that the neurosurgeon can follow his pressure while he is doing different things (eating, playing, sleeping...). Having an ICP monitor is not really a pleasure, however it is a great way to determine which is the best solution for the patient. Has the ventricular catheter ever been revised?

Please keep me posted and take care,
